During my career as a journalist I’ve had the good fortune of learning the publishing industry from the ground up by working with a number of incredibly talented writers, photographers and graphic artists. Bringing many of them together to form The Local Buzz is in many ways the fulfillment of a personal dream -- and an accomplishment of which I could not be more proud. Every single member of our team is an accomplished professional in their field. Collectively, I am confident we can deliver a publication that is unrivaled on the Treasure Coast.

Each issue will feature interesting and insightful stories that will introduce you on a personal level to the people, history, and culture of the local community. The Local Buzz will not simply be another magazine centered around celebrities and glamorous lifestyles, but about real people from all walks of life. As your publisher, I believe that everyone has a story, whether they are rich or poor, young or old. My mission is to see that The Local Buzz tells that story.

We’re going to feature one-on-one, on-stage entertainment reviews, movie critiques, in-depth profiles, health tips, fun things to do on a Saturday, weekend getaways, travel logs, local history, politics, a community calendar, fun facts about our state -- even a “news of the weird” section. More important than having regular columns; however, is our commitment to explore the undiscovered and try new things. You see, we want every issue to have something different. It’s one thing to be the “newest and hottest” -- quite another to stay that way. This will require reinventing ourselves -- over and over again.

One very valuable member of our team who will help us in this regard is Glenn Swift, our Editor in Chief. Glenn and I have worked together on numerous assignments the last few years, and I can’t imagine a more qualified person for the job. Known for a colorful, witty, easy-to-read style, Glenn was the 1999 Florida Magazine Association’s Bronze Award winner for Excellence in Writing. Since that time, he has written numerous articles for a number of publications across the country. A life-long resident of Vero Beach until recently, Glenn now lives in Laguna Beach, California and serves as Managing Editor for Kettley Publishing -- one of the nation’s leading publishers in the financial services industry. Glenn’s considerable talents will contribute enormously to our success.

I would be remiss; however, if I did not thank everyone on our team for making The Local Buzz a reality: James Collins, Brian Collins, Rick Hill, Judy Beard, Michelle Kaplan, Judyth Piazza, and Valerie Wheat. Creating this first issue has been the result of a long and carefully thought out process. Most assuredly, it has also been a labor of love.

In closing, I encourage you -- our readers -- to submit ideas, photographs, and even stories that you find interesting. Let’s make The Local Buzz something the whole community can enjoy and take pride in. Together, we can make it happen.

Sincerely,

Jason Collins, Publisher
