06-05-06 -- American Inventor Mark Martinez to Donate His Sack Master 2000 to Local City Workers throughout the Treasure Coast on June 20th, 2006

Mark Martinez, finalist on ABC's popular realty show American Inventor, is coming to the Treasure Coast on June 20th to donate a couple dozen of his Sack Master 2000 shovels. The Sack Master is especially designed to speed up the making of sandbags in the event of a natural disaster.

Current plans are for Martinez to donate the Sack Masters to St. Lucie, and Martin County and distribute them to local city workers throughout the Treasure Coast. Based upon the last two hurricane seasons, Martinez’s generosity could go a long way toward protecting valuable property and saving precious lives.

The first dozen Sack Masters will be donated at the Central Services Compound (Oleander and Edwards, Fort Pierce) with a number of city employees, along with some elected officials in attendance for a short demonstration by Mr. Martinez. The event will kick off at Noon with the help of Linette Trabulsy, St Lucie County's Public Information Officer.

At 2 p.m., an additional dozen Sack Masters will be donated at the Public Works Garage in Stuart (Martin Luther King Blvd. and Georgia Ave.) with another demonstration by Mr. Martinez. Among the scheduled attendees will be Sam Amerson, Director of Public Works for Martin County and some elected city officials to accept the donation.

The Local Buzz is sponsoring the event and has contacted other media outlets to help garner as much community participation as possible, all media and public are welcomed to attend. In the meantime, if you want to read more about Mark Martinez and his invention, you can do so in the June issue of The Local Buzz magazine, or go online at www.FlaBuzz.com.

05-26-06 -- Newest Member of the Buzz team: Monica Ann Eriksen

(Port St. Lucie) Monica Ann Eriksen has joined the sales force of the Local Buzz as an advertising agent. Eriksen recently obtained a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University and was announced at the ceremony as FAU’s youngest graduate.

Her noteworthy commendation should come as no surprise. Eriksen garnered numerous academic honors in her prep years. Indicative of her high scholastic achievement, last year Eriksen received her high school diploma at the same time she received her Associates Degree from community college.

Throughout her high school career, Eriksen was active in Teen Court, where she acquired representation skills as a result of defending and prosecuting a number of misdemeanor cases for minors. She was also the President of the Academy of Law, where she obtained several leadership roles and learned the art of negotiation.

In 2001, Eriksen received the President Student Service Award for outstanding community service hours after volunteering at several locations, including the Boys and Girls Club of Martin County, State Attorney’s Office, and a nursing home in Jensen Beach.

Eriksen is currently taking classes at a local community college to complete her prerequisites for a Masters-level nursing program so that she can become a Nurse Practitioner.

Her life experiences have been very rich despite her young years. She has traveled extensively overseas and throughout the United States. Originally born on an army base in Augusta, Georgia, Eriksen is of Eurasian decent (half Norwegian and half Chinese) and the only one in her family to be born in the US. Raised in Norway, she currently lives in the beautiful city of Stuart, where she attended high school and now works professionally.

Recently, Eriksen joined Realty Executives as a Realtor. She also tends bar at Tiki Bar 52 on County Line near Tequesta.

Her hobbies include soaking up the sun on our beautiful beaches in Stuart, playing chess and billiards, listening to live music, and playing the piano.

“I believe you have to go after things you want, and that you always have to look on the bright side and stay positive,” said Eriksen.

Jason Collins, publisher of the Local Buzz, had this to say about bringing Eriksen on board. “Monica is a bright, beautiful young woman with an impeccable character and a strong work ethic. Coupled with her down to earth demeanor and friendly smile, Monica is the ideal sales professional.”
